Régler son Commencal META POWER, après montage
STEP 0

Your META POWER is now built so here’s a tutorial to help with fine-tuning the settings.

IMPORTANT: Read the SHIMANO STEPS E8000 manual beforehand.

DO NOT switch on the battery until it is 100% charged (last step of setting up your bike).

STEP 1

Prepare the necessary tools needed to set-up your META POWER:

  • Allen key set
  • Torque 25/ Dynamometric key
  • Pump with manometer
  • Suspension pump
  • Grease

STEP 2

Putting the pedals on.

Be sure to put them on the correct side using the info (L & R indicators) on the pedals.

Grease the pedal thread.

Use a 6mm Allen key and tighten to 35N.m.

STEP 3

Position the saddle correctly and tighten the screw with a 4mm Allen key.

Tighten the screw as instructed on the seat post itself (max 10N.m).

STEP 4

To fix up the headset:

- Unscrew the 2 screws in the stem, which are situated nearest to the fork pivot, using a 4mm Allen key.

- Line up the stem with the front wheel.

- Tighten the top piece/hood of the stem. Be careful! The RIDE ALPHA screw, which is tightened with a 8mm Allen key, is made of Aluminium and must only be tightened to 3N.m. Use the long length of the 8mm Allen key to avoid over-tightening.

- Make sure there is no play in the headset and that is turns freely.

STEP 5

Tighten the stem screw (closest to the fork pivot) with a 4mm Allen key, to the recommended torque setting (5.5N.m).

STEP 6

Tighten the screws on the top of the stem with a 4mm Allen key, to the recommended setting (5.5N.m).

STEP 7

Adjust the position of the brake levers with the Torque 25 (ideally in a natural position for the forearms).

Check that the position of the front brake lever does not interfere with the Shift Assist lever.

Adjust the orientation of the Display screen then tighten with a 3mm Allen key (Torque = 0.8N.m).

Check the tightness of the grips with a 3mm Allen key.

STEP 8

Unscrew the front brake caliper half a turn with a 5mm Allen key.

Adjust the caliper so there is the same amount of space on each side between the disc and the pads to prevent the disc from rubbing.

Once the caliper is aligned, tighten the screws on the front brake caliper with a 5mm Allen key.

Also check the rear brake caliper alignment.

STEP 9

Adjust the pressure of your fork with the suspension pump (see manufacturers instructions specifically).

STEP 10

Adjust the preload of the shock spring making sure you respect the 25% SAG.

The shock rod is engraved with the % SAG.

STEP 11

Verify the tightness of the back wheel axle with the Torque wrench and a 6mm Allen key. Respect the indications on the axle (9 to 13.5N.m).

Also, make sure the front wheel axle is tight with the Torque wrench and a 6mm Allen key. Respect the indications on the axle (9 to 13.5N.m).

STEP 12

Clip the frame protection onto the chain stay.

STEP 13

Now check the transmission.

Make sure the chain guide is positioned at 34 teeth. If not it must be adjusted to 34 teeth with a 4mm Allen key.

STEP 14

Charge the battery 100% before lighting it up for the first time.

The battery is delivered in sleep mode and must be charged fully before turning on.

See the SHIMANO STEPS E8000 User Manual.

STEP 15

Once the battery is fully charged, switch it on without putting your feet on the pedals otherwise there will be a system error.

STEP 16

The SHIMANO STEPS E8000 system is one that evolves over time thanks to firmware updates. You can make these updates yourself via your smartphone or tablet with the E-Tube Project App. http://e-tubeproject.shimano.com/ We strongly recommend that you update it as soon as you receive your META POWER then it will definitely be fully up-to-date.

STEP 17

Congratulations, your bike is set and ready to ride! The POWER is in your hands…

Start with a test on flat ground at low speed to make sure everything is OK.

Now all you have to do is ride your favourite spot!

Enjoy!

A few last points:

 - Register your META POWER: https://tech.commencal.com/tech/index.php?action=register&lang=EN

 - On your new bike, the brake pads need a short wear-in to ensure optimal braking.

 - After your first rides you must check the tightness of the screws and bolts on your bike.

 - When washing your META POWER do not use a high-pressure jet wash as this could damage the STEPS E8000 electrical system.

- The settings of the SHIMANO STEPS E8000 system are made for standard sized tyres and transmission. If you have to change the rear tyre or the cassette, make sure you go through the same processes with the same references, otherwise the system could fail.

 - If you have any questions about the SHIMANO STEPS E8000 system, refer to the SHIMANO STEPS E8000 User Manual.
