STEP 0

Congratulations!

You bought a COMMENCAL META Power!

Here's a tutorial to guide you in building the bike from the box.

IMPORTANT: Carefully read the Instruction manual for the SHIMANO STEPS E8000 first.

Do not turn on the battery until it has been fully charged (the last step in adjusting your bike).

STEP 1

Prepare the necessary tools for assembly of the META Power:

 - Allen key 2,4,6mm

 - T25 Torx Wrench

 - Pair of pliers

 - Cable cutters

 - Grease

 - Shimano TL-EW02 Tool (included in the accessory box)

 - KS measuring tool (included in the accessory box)

STEP 2

Open the box at the top. Remove the metal clips from the top flap because they can be sharpe.

STEP 3

Take the bike out of the box, picking it up by the rear wheel/fork and lifting it vertically.

STEP 4

Lay the bike on the ground. Rotate the fork 90° to make the bike stable.

STEP 5

Take the accessory & battery boxes and lay out the contents:

 - Lighting kit, bell, retro-reflectors

 - Specific accessories for the Shimano E8000 (user manual, Shimano TL-EW02 tool, battery, charger, E6000 adapter)

 - Equipment accessories (papers and parts for suspension etc.)

 - KS seat post accessories (guide-pipe, cable end)

 - Pedals, chain stay protection

Keep the box containing the battery for possible storage or for shipping, as it's printed with the legal information for transport of the lithium battery.

STEP 6

Remove the plastic packaging that protects the bike.

STEP 7

Remove the plastic packaging that protects the handlebars.

STEP 8

Remove the stem cover with the 4mm Allen key.

STEP 9

Line-up the handlebars onto the stem.

Centre the handlebars using the laser engraved markers.

With the 4mm Allen key, tighten the stem cover back up.

STEP 10

Thread the electric cables through the plastic clip under the stem.

STEP 11

Connect the electric cable (coming from the Switch Assist shifter) to the display screen with the help of the Shimano TL-EW02 tool. It should click once tightened sufficiently.

STEP 12

Connect the electric cable (coming from the motor into the display screen) with the help of the Shimano TL-EW02 tool until you hear the click noise (wire coming out of the down tube).

STEP 13

Remove all protection from the bike.

STEP 14

Remove the plastic spacer between the front brake calliper pads.

Keep it for transporting the bike without the front wheel.

STEP 15

Remove the fork axle with a 6mm Allen key.

STEP 16

Grease the fork axle, especially the thread.

STEP 17

Install the front wheel.

Screw in the axle using the 6mm Allen key.

STEP 18

Install the battery onto the frame on the left side (see Shimano STEPS E8000User's Manual ).

STEP 19

Pull the cable from the sheath for the installation of the KS telescopic seat post.

STEP 20

Pass the cable through the KS seat post lever.

STEP 21

Pass the cable through the aluminium 90° guide-pipe. The pipe must fit into the collar of the lever.

STEP 22

Pass the cable through the sheath of the telescopic seat post. The cable must come out at the seat tube.

Set the cable tension knob (located on the guide pipe) to the minimum.

STEP 23

Unpack the KS telescopic seat post.

STEP 24

Push the cable-end cap onto the cable.

Use the KS plastic tool to adjust the position of the cap relative to the sheath.

Once it's in the correct position, tighten the screw with a 2mm Allen key.

STEP 25

You can also use a tape measure and position the tip with 14mm of the cable housing to spare.

STEP 26

Cut the cable flush with the end piece using the cable cutter.

STEP 27

Install the end cap in the silver lever below the KS seat post.

Insert the housing at the bottom of the seat post.

Check the correct functioning of the KS telescopic seat post by operating the lever on the handlebar.

If there is some play, unscrew the knob at the guide-pipe to enable tightening of the cable.

STEP 28

Insert the seat post into the seat tube.

Slide the cable and post inside the frame, pulling it out from the front of the bike. Gradually lower the post to the position appropriate your pedalling height.

STEP 29

Once the seat post is adjusted to your pedalling height, tighten the seat clamp screw using a 4mm Allen key.

If the seat post cable is too long at the front of the bike, measure the length of the cable that needs shortening. Release the seat post, remove the end piece, remove the cable, cut the cable to the correct length and start the installation again.

STEP 30

Keep the keys of the battery lock safe and be sure to note the serial number of the keys.

STEP 31

Congratulations! Your META Power is now assembled.

You can go to the next step : set up your Commencal Meta Power.
